Asian Fusion: Madera Home and Cherry Blossoms

Here is a little snapshot of Monday morning’s mental process… Madera Home makes us think of craftsmanship and China, China makes us think of Asia, Asia makes us think of Japan, Japan makes us think of cherry blossoms and cherry blossoms make us think of Spring. The idea of spring nearing is making this rainy day bearable. Got that? This blog post aims to unify this thought process by highlighting art and furniture that are the direct result or inspiration of two centuries-old Asian influences.

Madera Home is a company that reclaims Elm wood from temples, buildings and unusable furniture pieces from the Qing dynasty. Carefully and artistically, artisans re-commission the antique wood into beautiful furniture, “utilizing old world craftsmanship with modern touches.” The results are unique, durable pieces.

Long-lasting and significant in Japanese Culture, cherry blossoms have great symbolic value. The custom of “Hanami” or picnicking under a blooming Cherry Blossom or “sakura” tree has been practiced since 710. They also symbolize mortality, buddhism and of course, beauty. Lisa Shimko’s gorgeous acrylic paintings make us feel like spring has already sprung!

Madera wood pieces paired with Lisa Shimko’s series of Cherry Blossoms are a match made in heaven.
