Chanel’s Couture Garden Show last Tuesday in Paris was a sight for sore eyes. February is a dreary month. With snowstorms hitting the northeast last week and the groundhog predicting another 6 weeks of winter, a seasonal slump can be like a flu (and many times goes hand in hand with it). Its something you have to fight off. Weapon of choice? How about something that emulates spring, rebirth, happiness and health… A flower.
Karl Lagerfeld’s couture show brought spectators out of the winter doldrums and into a lush, tropical greenhouse filled with massive manmade flora that bloomed as the show began. The fairytale-like backdrop only enhanced designs which included dresses in tulle with lots of texture and sparkling embroidery. Dresses and skirts were adorned with silk flower appliqués in magnificently bright and contrasting colors.
Lets create our own garden party. Here at Michael Mitchell, we believe in the importance of surrounding oneself with beautiful things. On cold and somber days, we flock to floral paintings by plain air painter, Marissa Vogl. Here are some lively works that will keep you distracted until the first real blooms.
